Not To My Taste...

I was waiting for someone to get my stuff done. Just a simple task... touch some products, scanned through the area and get paid for doing that, but the person I was looking for wasn't around. In order to kill time, I filled up my empty stomach... oh, my... lunch time... but I was too engrossed to finish up my task and rushed home to write the report and get paid in Euros... Big Apple Doughnut was just a few steps away, but I dislike sticky and sweet stuff especially doughnuts. Tried something different...
Handmade? Don't really believe it unless it's like Dragon-i where everyone can see clearly the noodles are really handmade...
Looks delicious... smells like herbal egg...
large fresh oysters... and then... YUCK!! I hate that taste... taste like... like...indescribable... just tasted horrible... and please learn how to remove the smell of the oysters... make me wanna puke... even the raw oysters that I ate didn't smell or taste that bad... rated #1??
Crispy Floss Egg Crepe...
In another word, it's pork floss - 'bak hu' - wrapped with roti canai... and the sauce... too salty.
By the way, I would like to stress that my blog is not a food blog. I do not, and I repeat, I do not intend to recommend or boost Penang's food haven and tell sorts of stories just to make people salivate. If not nice, then not nice... not everyone has the same liking.
Have you heard of affiliate program? There's something called ethics... you can grab from my blog posts but when you grab and alter them and combine your writing with mine, that's downright cheating and using me. Mind you, I don't like being use by others... and you haven't seen me in real anger. Don't push too far... everyone has a limit but mine, you just need a small push and you can see volcanic eruption. I surprised myself when I didn't lash out at you when I met you in person... and don't boast about how great an entrepreneur you are... you can talk but the way you're doing your work... not professional at all... and you dare compare with me? You work less than a year and I've been in multiple businesses for 7 long years coming to 8.... nearly a decade. Don't make me rip you apart before you even started building anything. I just need to use all my free time and swing back into action and you're as good as gone. Don't do that next time. Again... no name mention... so if you think I'm talking about you... "Siapa yang termakan cili, dialah yang terasa pedas". Pedas kalau, minumlah air.... Lagi satu pepatah untuk anda, "Ukur baju di badan sendiri."

My Bouncy Plush Toys...

My Bit Bit... staying inside a locked cage must be a torture... the two prisoners crying for help...
both looked so pitiful... come out and explore then... sorry, no butterflies to catch or green soft grass to hop about... haha... can't wait for the door to be opened, yeah...
should I or should I not... just don't mess up the whole room... I don't like doing house chores..
Come out... come out and play...
My white Bit Bit was having second thoughts.... should step out from the fort or stay in... they're so cute....why so dirty?? How to clean the four paws? Can't immerse the whole bunny into water...
My black Bit Bit... at first glance when it was given to me... I only have this thought...Oh, my! A rabbit which looks like a donkey...
Off they go, hopping and scurrying around the room... very kaypo... I didn't know rabbits behave that way.. I only know dogs coz' I talk to my dogs since I was eight and they seem to understand me better than most people... and my present dog and the earlier dog are multilingual. My neighbour uses bahasa Malaysia and we use 'rojak' language....Dogs are men's best friends. Back to my two bouncy plush toys...
the kangaroo pose...
Come back... come back...
Cuddly...
and studious??
And why must the whole body be inside the food container??
I love this classic pic best! My Bit Bit... the computer geek...haih.. should have switch on the lappie...those furry legs look like dust wipes....
They're so soft, warm and cuddly... but not all the time cuddly... not even a sound but why Bugs Bunny talk so much?

Penang Coconut Jelly...

Yeah...the much talked about coconut jelly...cooling...soothing to the throat on a hot day... at Datuk Keramat Road... so near my place... just need to stop by the roadside, wind down the window and yell... no need to yell... wave wave hand can already...Quality of photos not that good... useless PDA... mana pergi my camera... need to use then lupa nak bawa... don't want to use then bawa merata tempat buat sepah saja...
Kecilnya lubang... sudu masuk lepas tu tersangkut...
Nanti aku korek isinya dulu... aku ini benci dengan coconut tapi aku peminat kepada jelly... sejuknya... meleleh air liur aku... sekarang pun aku terasa nak makan... taklah mahal sangat RM3.70 apasal dengan 70 sen itu.. kalau aku jual terus RM4... sebab the one only one in Penang.. no competitors charge lar tinggi sikit... nanti ada competitor baru main-main dengan harga...
Dah dikorek pun isinya.. sedap betul... memang cukup memuaskan kerongkong yang kekeringan... nak lagi..aku nak lagi... tapi malas nak pergi beli... apasal dia orang tak buat hantaran ya... tapi hantar untuk sebiji pun tak masuk kepala otak... kena tempah satu lori baru hantar kut...

The Best of Penang...

Penang Island... an island with everything available from mamak stalls with WiFi hotspots to high class kopitiams. The grass is always greener on the other side... I don't even know where to go during the holidays except for food hunting and clothes hunting. Penang Heritage Site, I only see temples and mosques and I am truly aware of the burning, scorching sun.

Walk through the streets in George Town... and you'll see chicken rice stalls in front of you, on your left, on your right and right behind you. Oh my, Char Koay Teow is everywhere. "Sisters' Char Koay Teow" in Macalister Road not that popular anymore after their untoward confrontation with a tax officer a few years back. The more popular one now will be Ah Leng Char Koay Teow, opposite my place or should I say directly opposite Federal Place in Datuk Keramat Road. Singaporeans fly in to Penang just to eat char koay teow but for me, you give me free also I don't want...
RM5 per plate.. I told mama very expensive, but she insisted that there were two large prawns. Mama, you want large prawns you tell me... I get 1 kg for you, double that size. Whenever I cook prawn dishes, you complain not good for health... now you're paying RM5 for a few strands of koay teow and yet, you emphasized on the prawns... *pengsan* Additional seafood will be RM9 per plate.

Now, Penang state government plans to promote twelve items as 'MUST BUY' products for tourists who visit our Pearl of the Orient. Let's take a look at the 12 items which I will number them while the extras will be my own recommendation:

#1 & 2: Tau Sar Pheah and Sesame Oil
The state government didn't mention which brand... but I, as a Penangnite, recommend Ghee Hiang in Macalister Road. Of course you have Him Heang and whatever Heang but Ghee Hiang is still the best...
#3: Nutmeg
you want nutmet, go to Balik Pulau... I promote something else in Balik Pulau..

the King of the Fruits... my ever finger-licking and sweet, yellowish...
durians... a few names.. Hor Lor, Ang Heh, D64, Siao Hoong and Lan Chiao Yuen (ish.. don't simply read, the middle word read in Chinese 3rd intonation)
Assam laksa in Balik Pulau but I prefer the Siam laksa... simply delicious.. btw, I'm also not a fan of laksa but just like to drive up there when there's nothing better to do, another not-so-famous but delicious laksa will be at my place in Jalan Tengah, Bayan Baru...

#4: Kuih bahalu...
Cukup wangi... also in Balik Pulau or just get the freshly baked ones in Queensbay Mall... at Arena Food Court...
#5: Rojak - Shrimp paste

With mengkuang, cuttlefish and macam-macam... a mixture of everything... that's why called 'rojak'... Penangnites also speak 'rojak' language... you read my blog posts mostly also in 'rojak' language and dialects...

#6: Pickled fruits
No good lar... ever heard of H.Pylori? If not, go find out yourself...

#7: Belacan

#8: Batik
I have two batik dresses hanging on the hangers and another batik cheongsam stashed somewhere underneath a pile of unneatly folded clothes...

#9: Capal
Why must promote this?? Why?? Other places not selling meh??

#10: Songkok

Men's head gear... more to Malay men's head gear... how come a 'must buy' product?
Why not just introduce this one for the women... nyonya kebaya... lagi cantik... #11: Wooden clogs...
Not this one lar... something like the one your grandma wears to the toilet... also get this from Balik Pulau. If you want the latest model of clogs, go get Crocs' shoes... rubber clogs...
#12: Bird cage...???
Why? I don't get it... just go to Balik Pulau also...
In conclusion, I think the state government is trying to promote Balik Pulau. I give you more information, when you're at the Rapid Pg bus terminal, board bus 301 or 401 Express, tell the bus driver, going to the last stop.. it's only RM3.50 one way... you may even board the bus at Komtar. Kindly bring a huge umbrella or you'll melt under the sun. Don't wear thick clothing, just wear a spaghetti strap and for men, go in your singlet... get a bowl of 'ais kacang' to cool yourself down...

Penang Times Square..

Did Ivory Properties oversee the danger of not having an anchor tenant in the building? Monthly rental for a kiosk is RM1 500 while the small shop costs a freaking RM11 000. When's the soft launch for the opening or already launch until nobody knows? Will it be a happening place or will have to wait until the residential project and hotel are ready for occupants? In my opinion, not having an anchor tenant in the building is not right...solely my opinion... The only thing that has attracted me to go to Penang Time Square was the heavily advertised...

...the only branch in Malaysia. The main is in Shanghai and another branch if I'm not mistaken is in Hong Kong. Haven Delights boasts of its Chinese, Korean and Japanese cuisine. I'm in for Chinese and Japanese but not for Korean. Let's take a look at the menu...
open.. flip flip flip... aiyo.. Japanese and Chinese words... how am I going to order like that? No pictures also. Waitress... get me your manager... I need to fill this up quick...
so what do you recommend me to order? I'm all ears... by the way, great service miss supervisor... but mr. manager... do you have to do things by the book? You can insist on NOT giving me the VIP card... but then again, it's OK I'll still go and I have sent a few more groups of people to your place. Stomach rumbling... food~ glorious food~

ASSORTED MUSHROOM FRIED RICE

Basically I do not eat mushroom but I just love the smell... I can cook variety of dishes but I just realize that I DO NOT know how to fry rice... hopeless case... so I do not mind spending RM8 for a plate of tasty fried rice

MOONLIGHT HOR FAN
Look at the egg yolk in the middle. Hor fan tasted fantastic and looked more like seafood hor fan with squid. I'm not really a big fan of hor fan so I'm gonna wait for something else...

CHICKEN BAN BAN (silky egg fried with chicken)

Not a good choice as it's deep fried. No comment on the chicken meat.. I still prefer the one in Azuma. Overall rating 5/10.

MOTOYAKI GRILLED SCALLOP

Yummy but spicy... thus, not to my liking... will try out other dishes some other time... scallop very fresh.. I'm good in tasting seafood especially raw oyster...

Nobody can stop me from having this... Don't tell me about high cholesterol or healthy eating... I just need to indulge in this once in a blue moon and my blue moon comes whenever I'm having Japanese cuisine...

CHUKA LIDAKO..

The size of the baby octopus is PERFECT!! Small... tiny... that's the most perfect size for this dish. Other's who imported a larger size baby octopus is a No-No... *shakes head*

I need some more food... call for

HONG KONG FRIED RICE

Wahh... got pork floss... mama... remove the spring onions and the vege please... and also from the rest of the dishes... I don't eat vege except for a few selected ones...

Food not over-priced. Will gladly go again for the eat-all-you-can buffet... I'm looking for 'kaki' to do food marathon with me from lunch right thru' dinner. Order everything from the menu except for those Korean food then eat while laughing...hopefully I don't choke while doing so. RM49.90++ but the thing is I've lost my stamina in food marathon... will try it out soon.

Walk around Time Square. There's Nice Day selling soft toys, Roti Bakar Kopitiam - something like Old Town and Georgetown White Coffee, Gasoline - western cuisine, Tsuruya - Japanese cuisine (my next stop), Merry Brown - I prefer A & W... There's a stage for performance but even if there's any performance, my eyes will be busy looking at the water fountain like the one in Sentosa Island, Singapore...

I'm gonna walk thru' the spitting water next time.. this time cannot coz' of my clothing... Nothing much to do except to sit for awhile...
