Cast Your Burden...[15]

It is only the dead who have no problems. Problems are a part of life. The person who faces no problems, faces no challenges. And the person who faces no challenges, knows no excitement in life. We all have problems, but the difference between a person who is successful in life and one who is not, is the one who knows how to handle their problems. A problem is either a barrier or a stepping stone, and you have the choice as to which one it is going to be. God wants to make it a stepping stone to higher ground.

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.
[Psalm 55:22]

Yes, a problem can be a real 'weight', but we must 'release' it in prayer and practical experience. When we do, He promises to strengthen and sustain us, so that we will not slip, fall or fail. That means, He wants us to be secure, stand strong and succeed.

Take that problem right now, and hand it over to the Lord, and release it. Let go and enjoy the wonderful freedom and strength He gives.

There are three ways in which people face their problems. They either break up, break down or break through.

Unanswered Prayer - Unheard Answers...[14]

Are you experiencing unanswered prayer? Does God turn a deaf ear to some of your desperate pleas? We all experience irritation when our best efforts to communicate result in an unsatisfactory response -- or worse, no response at all. We wonder, “Did you ever receive my message?” When we pray, we often equate the lack of immediate tangible results with God rejecting our prayers. We are urged to pray earnestly with the promise of “powerful and wonderful results.”

Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
[James 5:13-16]

Why would God emphasize the importance of prayer and then choose not to respond with a joyful answer? When answering prayer, God responds first to our attitude, much as a parent responds to a precious child.

As a father has compassion on his children; so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
or he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
[Psalm 103:13-14]

Our childish actions and attitudes frequently affect a prayer’s desired results.

Unforgiveness...
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.
[Mark 11:24-25]

selfishness...
If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.
[Proverbs 21:13]

doubt...
Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, "Go, throw yourself into the sea," and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
[Matthew 21:21-22]

greed...
You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
[James 4:2-3]

pride...
..if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
[2 Chronicles 7:14-15]

and stubbornness...
"But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and stopped up their ears. They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the Lord ALmighty was very angry.
"When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen," says the Lord Almighty.
[Zechariah 7:11-13]

hinder God’s desire to answer prayer.

Unanswered Prayer – Unexpected Answers Prayer is not a casual one-sided conversation. It is not “back-up insurance” guaranteeing a life free from pain and struggles. Prayer is actively acknowledging God as the source of all power and trusting that His answers, whether expected or unexpected, will accomplish greater things.

Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
[Isaiah 46:9]

Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
[Isaiah 64:4]
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
[2 Thessalonians 2:16-17]

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies...
[John 11:25]

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
[Jeremiah 29:11]

Unanswered Prayer – Understanding Answers Sometimes, God will answer, “No” to our desperate prayers. Any delay or unexpected outcome must not dishearten us. What is God’s true purpose in answering our prayers?

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.
[John 14:13]

What does God want to complete in us through prayer?

In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
[John 16:23-24]

God wants us to bring our every need to Him as He answers (yes or no) according to His character and will. God will never grant requests contrary to His will. While receiving a “Yes” usually makes us happy, God never promised us happiness. Happiness is based on circumstances. God wants us to have everlasting joy -- especially when He responds, “No, it will be done in My time, not yours. No, I will reveal My glory.”

Jesus agonized over the events leading up to His death.

He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done. An angel from heaven appeared to him and strenghtened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
[Luke 22:41-44]

In fervent prayer, His greatest desire was to give preeminence to God’s will, not His suffering and pain.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
[Hebrews 12:2]

When we pray without ceasing, God always responds, and every answer brings joy.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
[1 Thessalonians 5:16-18]

Expect the Best...[13]

Some very special promises for the child of God...
Provision
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blamesless.
[Psalm 84:11]

Protection
... I am your shield, your very great reward.
[Genesis 15:1]
Promise
...being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he had promised.
[Romans 4:21]
Prosperity
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
[Psalm 23:6]

Expect the best from the One who gives the best!

Wisdom Tooth...

How wise I grow this year... by the way, that wisdom tooth has been trying to poke out from the gum since last year. This time poke until everything swollen but can't get out due to the slanted position. The smart dentist said, "You must go for surgery to remove it."

Sudahlah aku sangat takut pergi jumpa dentist. Kecut perut aku ditambah dengan bunyi alat-alat like drilling your skull. Aku cukup tak boleh tahan baru pergi jumpa si doktor gigi. Mata aku nyaris-nyaris bergolek keluar when he shook his head saying, "This one very bad. Look at the position. All wrong. Girl, go to Adventist hospital and get the surgery done if not it will be worse. Now, I give you the strongest painkiller."

Doc... kill me straight away better.... I don't want to go for any surgery :'(

Scared~

God is For Us...[12]

...By this I will know that God is for me..
[Psalm 56:9]

This has been a constant source of inspiration to me. Make it yours, too. When you wake up in the morning, to know that "God is for you!" is such an encouraging blessing. He is for you personally. He is for your family, He is for your health, He is for your finances, He is for your ministry.

...If God is for us, who can be against us?
[Romans 8:31]

We must first make sure we are on God's side, by committing our lives to Christ, and then we can know we are on the winning side.

To have God's favour and blessing upon our lives, Job gave us some interesting steps...

What you decide on will be done, and light will shine on your ways.
[Job 22:28]

We need to action God's Word in our lives:
  • Make a mental decision to stand on a promise of God.
  • Declare authoritatively and action that promise. Speak it out loud.
  • God shall bring it to pass and it shall be established for you.
  • Then you will have the light of God's favour shining upon your life.

God is for you, so make sure you decide every day to declare His truths and promises into your life and experience His wonderful favour upon ally our ways.

God said it, that settles it, so let's go!

One More...

Almost every one has their own hobbies. Collecting stamps - I used to do that when I was in primary school. Collecting marbles - I used to do that when I was in kindergarten as I used to play with marbles with neighbours. Collecting animals - my house used to look like a zoo with fish, birds, doggies and cat. Yes, a cat and a dog and birds and fish and tortoise and hamsters living under one roof. Then, I collect books. Right until now, I still do that.

Collecting rings - my latest craze. Whatever blinks and shines, except for yellow gold. No fake items, though. One more for the index finger and I'm done unless I change my mind about filling up my right hand fingers with rings, too.

My Instant Son...

Yes~! Yes~! Instant. Smile bebe.... *muacks* I'm already contemplating showering you with gifts like what I do for my prince and princess... but I don't know what you like... maybe next time when I see you I can start buying stuff taken from every shelf in the children's department.

Prosper in His Name...[11]

Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
[3 John 2]

God wants us to prosper. Because of the extremes and imbalance in this area, many individuals struggle with this concept. However, God does want us to prosper. Now the word 'prosper' means - to succeed, to thrive, to do well, to flourish.

God certainly wants the best for us in every way. David expressed this truth when he said...

May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness;
may they always say, "The Lord be exalted,
who delights in the well-being of his servant."
[Psalms 35:27]

Like everything in life, there are conditions. The Bible has many promises for the believers, but they have to be appropriated. Remember, we are meant to stand on the promises, not sit on the premises.

To receive God's prosperity into our life we must daily delight and meditate in the Word of God. Will this challenge you?

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
[Psalms 1: 2-3]

As we allow God's Word to enter into our lives and action its truth, our lives are directed into the way of God's blessing and properity. Yes, God does want you to flourish in your spirit, in your soul (mind, intellect and emotions) your body, as well as your walk, ministry and financial areas.

We are not made rich by what is in our pockets, but by what is in our hearts.

Mount Up in Prayer...[10]

Pray continually
[1 Thessalonians 5:17]

How long will that be then? 3 days? One week? 2 years? 5 years? Our time frame and God's time frame is different.

"It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority."
[Acts 1:7]

Pray without ceasing. You get bored with the same prayer, then you stop? God's not bored. He loves to hear our voices. Did you just pray because you need something from God? Why give God a limit and a due date? Then, grade Him depending on how He performs? *I'm not shooting anyone down in this particular post. Be more open-minded. I've changed my writing skills* If you can spend so much time communicating with friends, repeating the same issue over and over again, how come you can't do that with God? You can't hear God or you're too afraid to hear Him or you've never even ask to hear His still small voice? If you can pray and fall asleep while praying, I guess God can't hear you. Speak to Him clearly. Let your voice be heard.

"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
[Luke 11: 9-13]

How sure are you that you'll not be happy with what God has prepared for you? How sure are you? How do you know what's going to happen in future? You're not even sure of tomorrow. Don't mention about tomorrow. You won't know what will happen to you in the next hour or minute or second.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that."
[James 4:14]

Prayer is a privilege. God is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He knows everything you ever did and He still loves you! He knows your future too. He has the best plans for your life.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
[Mark 11:24]

He cares for you so much that He gave His Son so that you could be with Him forever. You can talk to Him about anything that concerns you. Tell Him your desires and passions. Share your concerns for your loved ones. Talk out your fears with Him. Communicate to God what is inside you without fear.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
[Philippians 4:6]

Prayer may be accomplished in many ways. The best way is to be natural, just as if you were in the room with Him. He is very anxious to hear every word you say. You can say whatever is on your heart. He’ll even listen to your anger and sadness. God created us to have free will. He wants us to come to Him willingly and not as robotic creations. He has given us a mind to make decisions and the most important decision is about eternity. Even though He knows the future, we don’t know the future choices we will make. It’s important to live by His guidance to make the right choices. When you pray, God listens to your cries. When you don’t pray, God feels left out of your life. As you pray consistently, you are affirming the existence of God in your life. You are building your faith as you see God’s hand do His mighty work on your behalf just because you asked.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
[2 Peter 3:9]
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
[Matthew 7: 7-8]

Who do you pray for? Yourself and your family only? Widen your circle...

...bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
[Luke 6:28]
Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray.
[James 5:13]
...pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
[James 5:16]
"Pray that you will not fall into temptation."
[Luke 22:40]

The best way to pray is to pray in the Spirit...

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
[Romans 8:26]

Priorities...[9]

That which we persist in doing becomes easier - not that the nature of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased.
[Emerson]

Organize and execute around priorities. 24 hours to me is definitely not enough. Talking about being a recluse, last time the moment I woke up, the only thing that came to my mind was spending more time under the comforter and disconnect myself from the outside world. Thus, I neither have a phone line nor Internet for 5 years. I don't even remember having a television in the room until one day, I saw the television screen and found the remote control under the rubble, that I realised I have a television. Yes, I can survive without a television but I cannot live without books.

Time management is very important in order to have a balanced work life, social life, personal life and family life. There are a few categories where you can slot in your activities.

Important and Urgent
Crises. Pressing problems and deadline-driven projects. "Go with the flow" and staying in the status quo. Dealing with significant results that require immediate attention. Keep focusing on stuff which are important and urgent, it keeps getting bigger and bigger until it dominates you. It's like the pounding surf. A huge problem comes and knocks you down and you're wiped out. You struggle back up only to face another one that knocks you down and slams you to the ground. Some people are literally beaten up by problems all day every day. Thus, the results you get are stress and burnout, always trying to put out fires.

Not Important but Urgent
What's so not important but urgent at the same time? Ridiculous, right? Interruptions - especially phone calls. You're deep in a conversation with someone then you have a call that you needed to answer or else the ringing of the phone will drive you crazy. Then, you have those e-mails threatening to flood your inbox unless you click and take a read then clear them off. Are those e-mails that important? They aren't but it is urgent to you as you'll want an organized inbox. There's gatherings to attend with some old friends. Urgent in the sense that it might jeopardize your social circle if you make yourself not available every time when there's a gathering. Popular activities you have to carry out with your buddies or else you'll be blacklisted and be a social-outcast of your own circle of friends. In conclusion, you only have short-term focus. Reputation wise, you have a chameleon character. You'll feel victimized and out of control of your own life. Shallow or broken relationships at the end. Worth it?

Not Important and DEFINITELY Not Urgent
Some people concentrate in this quadrant. Busy... busy... busy... busy... busy. Yes, I used that so often that friends stopped asking me out for any outings. But in actual fact, my working hours are totally opposite than others. When you're working, I'm rolling on the bed. When you're free, I'm working. And I would rather spend my time playing video games than hanging out with people. Again, I tell them I was busy. I would choose to sleep or 'hang out' on my bed, but said I was busy. Time wasters... talking about nothingness, burning the phone line. That was during secondary school when I had a hobby of 'bergayut atas talian' for as long as 4 hours every day. Then, some people have pleasant activities which they indulged in. Mine will be shopping.

Important YET Not Urgent.
Urgent matters are usually visible. They press on us - they insist on action. They're usually right in front of us. And ofthen they are pleasant, easy, fun to do. But so often they are unimportant! Importance, on the other hand, has to do with results. If something is important, it contributes to your mission, your values, your high priority goals. We react to urgent matters.

Important matters that are not urgent require more initiative, more proactivity. We must act to seize opportunity, to make things happen. If we don't have a clear idea of what is important, of the results we desire in our lives, we are easily diverted into responding to the urgent matter.

There are actions we can take to prevent friction with people around us. Relationship building is somewhat important but not a pressing issue. It's investment of our time. Recognizing new opportunities - again, that it also important but not urgent. Planning. All it takes is planning. Failing to plan is planning to fail. What I would want you to do now is, take out a piece of paper and a pen, write down these questions together with the answer. When you're done, stuff the paper into anywhere you won't be able to find unless you spring clean your whole room :-) Serious.. not joking.
Question 1:
What one thing could you do (you aren't doing now) that if you did on a regular basis, would make a tremendous positive difference in your personal life?
Question 2:
What one thing in your professional life would bring similar results?

To say "YES" to important but not urgent priorities, you have to learn to say "NO" to other activities, sometimes apparently urgent things. Decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage - pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically - to say "NO" to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger "YES" burning inside. The enemy of the "BEST" is often the "GOOD".

Keep in mind that you're always saying "NO" to something. If it isn't to the apparent, urgent things in your life, it is probably to the more fundamental, highly important things. Even when the urgent is good, the good can keep you from your best, keep you from your unique contribution, if you let it.

Manage our lives effectively - from a center of sound principles, from a knowledge of our personal mission, with a focus on the important as well as the urgent, and within the framework of maintaining a balance between increasing our production and increasing our production capability. This is, admittedly, an ambitious objective for people who's always concentrating in the other three areas I mentioned above. The six important criteria:
  • Coherence - Coherence suggests that there is harmony, unity and integrity between your vision and mission, your roles and goals, your priorities and plans, and your desires and discipline. In your planner, you should be a place for your personal mission statement so that you can constantly refer to it. Place your roles for both short and long-term goals.
  • Balance - Identify your various roles and keep them right in front of you, so that you don't neglect important areas such as your health, your family, professional preparation, or personal development. Many people seem to think that success in one area can compensate for failure in other areas of life. But can it really? Perhaps it can for limited time in some areas. But can success in your profession compensate for a broken relationship, ruined health, or weakness in personal character?
  • Focus in Important yet Not Urgent Activities - Organize your life on a weekly basis. It provides much greater balance and contact than daily planning. The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.
  • A "People" Dimension - Deal with people, not just schedules. While you can think in terms of efficiency in dealing with time, a principle-centered person thinks in terms of effectiveness in dealing with people. There are times when principle-centered living requires the subordination of schedules to people. Implement rather than create guilt when a schedule is not followed. *I used to feel upset whenever my plans didn't turn out as expected due to human factor*
  • Flexibility - Your planning tool should be your servant, never your master. Since it has to work for you, it should be tailored to your style, your needs, your particular ways.
  • Portability - Write your weekly schedule somewhere where you can carry around. Easier to view or to make changes when necessary. Don't depend 100% on your memory.

"For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you....

[Jeremiah 29: 11-14]

Afternoon Shower...

Look at that clear blue sky. The short afternoon shower cleared off the haze. It's good to be able to see the hill again.

Take Charge of Your Thoughts...[8]

A wise man's heart guides his mouth, and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
[Proverbs 16:23-24]

For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
[Matthew 12:34]

That picture is not about flu. It's about what comes out of our mouth - either good or bad. How then to control ourselves from sending out the 'bad flu'?

Instruct your mind daily
You need memory verses. Let it run in your head again and again. The ones I've prepared for both of us, read it daily. I've chose the easy ones. We will move to heavier verses as we progress.

Add learning to your mind daily
The daily devotion helps a lot. I have something to share. I'm not sure whether you're a procrastinator or not, but I know I am one. As you've said, if you're busy on that particular day, you will double your devotion the next day. I would suggest that you don't do that because from my own experience, tomorrow never comes. I can drag my tomorrow until one long month or half a year or a year. Use this principle, we need to eat every day no matter how busy we are. If we're able to find time to feed our physical body, how come we don't have time to feed our spiritual soul? Why let it go hungry?

Do it persuasively
Turn it into a habit - a good habit of reading God's words daily.

The Day I Wasn't Home For 18 Hours

It was a hazy morning. I have planned my day well. Whether rain or shine, I knew it would be a beautiful day. The day started with four hours of work. Easy job. A few hours were spent on driving but I love to drive around. The whole afternoon was spent over at the mainland. I couldn't resist the temptation to shop and spend when I saw Jusco in Bukit Mertajam. Had lunch there but I can safely say that Kim Gary tasted a lot better than...
Soft-shell crab, prawns, chicken, ice-cream, chocolate drink and lots more... eat to my heart's content. The service was bad. Thanks for the treat Mr. Tan...
The aftermath of heavy eating...
Never play with your food...
I was so full... gonna burst anytime soon. Then before we walked out, I remembered I haven't had my ice-cream. It's already paid so where's the ice-cream? Oh, wow! Have to ask from the waiter only can get it? Never ask then won't get?? What kinda service is that?
After lunch, walk walk around and I ended up seeing my money flew off so fast. I floated to the jewelry shop SK and got myself a rose-gold ring for my thumb. Then crawled to the shoe shop and bought a pair of white heels - not that I don't have any but I already have a few white heels. Suddenly, oh no! Pink bag. Love it! Love it! Must have it! I better go back to my lovely Penang Island before I start on a real shopping spree. Out of the tiger's mouth, I jumped into the crocodile's mouth. Ta-da! In Penang Times Square for KELV Evening Gala...
The designs are beautiful. Price leh... to me still ok... material.. nice also.
Then I met her in person... Amber Chia...
That's the most beautiful natural photo of her... without being photoshopped. The rest I don't think it's nice to put those up. Not fair to her.
That kept my imaginative mind rolling. Did Joe lie about the beauty and cosmetic products? Did Joe lie about the results of using the products? Who did Joe lie to? Oh, well. I'm not bothered. My turn to pose for my own camera...
All of the sudden...hungry~ Dinner at 9:45pm.. kinda late but have to eat coz' there's another appointment at 11pm. Hhmm... go for Japanese, Chinese, Western or ice-cream at Swensen's? After walking up and down the walkway, I chose this...
